I doze in and out of sleep in the glow of the television screen
Just below the surface of sleep I feel your heart beat
I wake to a formal notice of moonset shaped exactly like god
Berry stained lips eclipse what you wanted to say
Turmeric stained fingers linger in a basket full of flowers
In those hours I held you like you would dissolve if I let go

Mosquito Halo
03:33
|

He is drunk and stupid. His head hung like a sunflower too heavy for its stem. I resented him for spitting on the sidewalks. I watch mosquitos drown in his blood. The florescent hums above him, flooding the room with a nauseating yellow, causing everything to vomit a shadow. It’s as if the scene is a dream the light is having. I stand motionless. For a moment I forget I’m not looking at a screen, the flickering light a paused tape vying to keep its image still. The telephone rings, interrupting the dream. I’m too frightened to confront the voice on the end of the line, mustering only some lazy pantomime of intention toward the telephone. The lexicon is collapsing in on itself. Self abolition in tandem with something holy. And for this melancholy all earthly things move inevitably towards decay. Time is a utopia. Time is a carcass.

Summertime Bled
03:01
|

We would lay in bed until the warmth of the summertime bled
Into the room and you knew that the trees draw themselves on their leaves
From an inner impulse that flew like a dove came a drove of quick and bright love
It felt like sun showers in those hours before we knew there'd be more
In a bathtub you used to almost swim in in the house you used to live in
Inside you'll find some kind of love unconfined

Soft light on pillow cases. Indentations in the grass. The unmistakable sound from the wings of an insect in flight.
